Miniature Aluminum Internal Floating Roofs

Have you ever had an idea that might be beneficial in your industry? I had one of those ideas and made it happen.

I was traveling through the oilfields on my way from San Antonio to Corpus Christie during the fracking boom about 15 years ago when I noticed all the flaring of gas as far as the eye could see. My first thought was how the EPA is frowning on this, and the second thought was if the end users knew how much money they were losing from their 12-F storage tanks spread across the Basin.

Realizing an opportunity and creating a solution is what transferred into the first of its kind in the O&G industry and that was designing and manufacturing a miniature aluminum pontoon floating roof to fit inside the 12-F storage tanks that are commonly used near oil production sites.

Working with Ultraflote’s engineers, the 12-F tank manufacturers, and the end users (first was EOG Resources), we were able to reduce the emissions that were escaping from these small tanks which appeased the EPA as well as saved the end-users money by maintaining the product inside the tanks and not into the air or “flaring”.

These small IFR’s (Internal Floating Roofs) would include the standard appurtenances and were designed to either be installed in the shops of tank manufacturers or packed in a crate that would fit through the manway of the tanks and shipped to location where the company would have workers install on site.

Over the years, Ultraflote has seen many other companies in locations throughout the United States investing in this technology and have seen great results on cost savings and environmental protocols.
